Process of Filming and Editing

I have started editing our music video and put parts where there should be, it was kind of a long process and a bit tricky, because the lip-sinking had to match the lyrics of the song, with the right timing. Amanda who is the main character in our music video has learnt all the lyrics to the song, and has practised lip-sinking to the lyrics.
We have filmed all three verses and for the chorus' there will be flashbacks between them.

Process of Filming

My group and I are in the process of making our music videos, and we have made rough edits of the film, going through it, we have pick pointed sections in the editing of the film,  so in our final process of filming, and editing, we as group can make improvements.

More on Focus Group

'A focus group is a form of qualitative research in which a group of people are asked about their perceptions, opinions, beliefs, and attitudes towards a product, service, concept, advertisement, idea, or packaging. Questions are asked in an interactive group setting where participants are free to talk with other group members.'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focus_group

As a group we decided to make a focus group which would invlove my group talking to other members of my college and ask them questions about our choice of song. We wanted to get a rough idea of what is expected to be in our music video. There is a video below in the next post, and it show us playing a section of our song. It was their first time of listening to the audio. One of the first questions we asked them was what they thought of the song choice, their response was okay, they did tell the truth, one of themn said it was not their kind of music. We liked the fact that they were being honest because we wanted to here different opinions and then we could go from there. Overall we got rough/good idea of what should be in our video, for example an idea was getting intimate(kissing), a couple should be in the video maybe holding hands, just being romantic. The focus group helped alot, because we had no idea what to do at first and getting other people's help/opinion was a great idea.

WHY?

Why did we decide to use these use these props, actors and locations?

Actors?
As it was a one female singer, we decided to leave it like that instaed of having group of females singing. It would have been easier but we wanted a challenge, and we chose Amanda to be that singer because she is not shy and she wanted to lip sync more than us. We just to have a boy in our video so the lyrics could be more eeffective as she is performing the song to him(acting). As it is a loved up song, i'd prefer if they both were init than just her, it will be more realistic.
Locations?
I personally thought that the cinema was good idea to film because it going to the cinema with your partner is romantic and that suited our theme which was love. Using the bedroom as a setting was a good idea because it would set the mood even more by being romantic.
Lakeside the shopping mall was aniother great idea, we wanted amanda and her partner to hold hands and shop around, him holding her bags, we wanted to show how much they really like each other and how inseparable they are. All the other locations listed down below are possible place that we may use but all for the same reason because it sets the mood and more raomance. For emaple the kitchen, we had an idead of filiming amanda feed her partner or cooking for him, that is really sweet and romantic and the lryics describe how musch she cares for him and loves him, that she'll do anything for him.
Props?
We did not think that a lot of props would be needed for our music video, it was more about the action and location, but we thought of a few that we may need, they are listed in the post below.
We wanted a teddy bear in the video, from him to amanda saying i love you, that would be sweet and we wanted her to be hugging the teddy to show how much she loves the teddy and appreciates it. The bed has to be in our video, we want the couple to talk and mess about with each other as well as get intimate but not to a certain level. But all the ideas are possible, we will not use all of them but we had to have back ups incase none of these we available.

My Favourite DigiPak from Cover Dude

On the Cover dude website, i looked through all of different artists digpak's Some were boring and some were attractive. The one that caught my ey was Nicki Minaj's Cover . The colour of the CD cover drew attention to me, as the colour Pink was very bright. The colour of the DigiPak matches the personality of the Artist Nicki Minaj. It stands out by far, and has a continuous colour range on each cover within the digipak being Pink. The front photo is serene anmd beautiful, which is definitely something i am going to take in to context and memory when we are creating our DigiPak.

Cover Dude DigiPak

To learn more information and more detail about what a digipak is and what digipaks actually look like, i have been given a website to look on to to go into more depth on digipaks called 'www.coverdude.com'. During the making of our music video for this assignment, we will also be making a digipak for me and my group members for our 'group' for our CD of our music to be packaged inside.

A digipak is usually linked to the general theme or idea of the song/album and would have features on the song on the CD, for examples pictures from the video and inside of the case, lyrics to the songs. Lyrics is usually provided within album covers.

A digipak for groups are the bit about that should be appealing and drawing the audience in. It gives the people who make the music a chance to give an edge about their digipak and stand out from other ones made. To produce a good digipak, me and my fellow group members are going to have to grasp as much information as possible about digipak to produce a good one and stand out from other ones, which this website 'Coverdude.com' does.

What needs to be included in a DigiPak

There are many different things that need to be included within a digipak for them to be sold to the public and attract the audience in and them to be appealing to the audience:

  • Barcode
  • Artist name
  • Albumn/CD name
  • Picture
  • Track list
  • Label name
  • Label sign

Artists similar to Corinne Vielle

After hearing the audio of Corinne Vielle, her sound was familiar to other R' n 'B singers in the industry. This is a good thing because we could relate to the video. The more we knew about that kind of sound we could do some resaerch on other artists that had the kind of sound, that would help us plan what kind of music video we would have. In one of my first post I spoke about a female R' n 'B singer Keyshia Cole aslo known as the princess of hip hop, her sound and Corinne Vielle's sound is alike, especially the language that is used, the genre is the same, and they talk about similar topcs in their songs. We could not find a video of Corinne Vielle and the song Therapy, so we watched  a music video that was made last year in A2 which as part of the course, the song was the same song as my group, so we watched their video and analysed it. We saw how they used film language which included editing techniques and mis en scene. We did not want to use any of their ideas so we looked at other similar artists to Cornne Vielle. We also came up familiar famous singers such as Beyonce, Rihanna and Mariah Carey. Most of their songs are in the same genre as Corinne Vielle, when it comes to love or romantic songs, most of their videos include, boys, flirting, kissing, play fighting, roses, and lyrics describing how they are in love and why. The typical loved up song is how i would describe it. So we decided to use a few features from the above in our music video. We do want our music video to be different but on the other hand not too extreme and not include anything to do with romance. Beyonce Knowles is a good example of loved up videos especially her song 'HALO'. The lyrics to the song are breathtaking and sweet...Here is a verse from the song..
Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

More lyrics: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/b/beyonce/#share

These lyrics are explaining the way she feels for her lover, and Corinne Vielle does the same thing. The song Therapy is all Loved up so we wanted our video to be signifiacnt to the lyrics.

Story line behind our song 'THERAPY'

The story line of our music video is based on a girl who is singing a song about the love of her life, her lover is like therapy to her and cant live without him. During the video, you'll see an intervention of both the girl and the boy as ''flashbacks'' of moments of their relationship which linked in to the music. To make the flash back noticable and effective we will put the flash backs in black and white. The genre of our song is R' n 'B, the song is slow and romantic, this song can be related to young girls who are in love. The lyrics are breath taking and moving, we want the lyrics to go with our video, so as group we ill have to come up with ideas that would suit our music video.

Final Detailed outline of Ideas

After showing my sory board to a few people and my teacher, i decided to change a few things that will be in our video.

StoryBoard

This is our storyboard which has enabled us to complete our animatic as this is simply just the pictures on our storyboard fit together like a slideshow.
The parts that do not have any illustrations or any text will be looked into on the day and at the scene as we do not know what the weather is going to be like or different angles yet so we cannot predict sounds and camera framings.

Rough Outline of initial ideas

Corinne Vielle... Therapy Audio

Corrine Vielle - Therapy Lyrics

We've been together for a while
As Love accumulates / I know this is fate
Intensely I adore you / attracted I am to you
this is no mistake / you're my soulmate
Yes, I confess / that i'd be a mess if you ever left
I can't get enough / comsumed by your touch
i know that this is love
so what i gotta do / to prove my love is true
tell me right now i'll do anything for you cause

Chorus
You're my everything everything
you're my remedy my therapy
you're the flame that heats my soul and your love is like a miracle

Verse 2
Even when i told you to leave me alone
you always stayed close and you never let go
and i just wanna tell you I love your whole attitude
nothing really bothers you / you always keep it real
i got your back if you got my back
yeah you know i'm that deal
there's no question, no calculation, this is how i feel
I love every minute, every second, everyday
and if you go away i'll probably go insane cause

Chorus
You're my everything everything
you're my remedy my therapy
you're the flame that heats my soul and your love is like a miracle

Bridge
Your love is like a dream, i'm imagining with you
and i'm thankful / i'm grateful i found you
i don't know if i can find the words to say
to make you understand that i am in love

Chorus
You're my everything everything
you're my remedy my therapy
you're the flame that heats my soul and your love is like a miracle

Corinne Vielle

Now that we have changer our mind on our song and artist, her is a picture of my new artist that I am going to be focusing on. Corinne Vielle is an unsigned artist from the United States of America, she is a singer and specializes in the genre of R'n'B and Hip Hop.
This is a link to Corinne Vielle's Websit, for more information click onto her website.

CHANGE OF SONG

We have had a group discussion about our first choice of song and decided to change our song reason being Thicke management did not reply to our message, We sent them an email asking permission if it was ok to use Thicke's Music for our Media coursework as you can see in the post below, we have said why and what we are doing with their song. We had to ask for permission to use their music whether they were unsigned or not, if we did not and used their music this would be seen as COPYRIGHT. As they did not reply we have now decided to change our song but still using the same genre. The new song is THERAPY! By Corinne Vielle

Emailed 'Thicke' Management

This is the prinstcreen image of an email, that Chanel sent to Thicke's management, asking permission to use their song for our project in Media

  • The first high lighted caption on the print-screen is Chanel basically introducing myself to the person.
  • The second shows how Chanel has been looking on a website which shows that prinstcreen we as a group has seen other applicants and other music on there and taken an interest as we've been 'browsing through the website'.
  • The third caption is talking about the love we have for their music
  • The fourth, is giving the singers an involvement and appreciation if they'd allow us to use their music.

    Found the RIGHT SONG!!! :)

    THICKE - HEARTBEAT

My fellow group members and I had a discussion and researched different songs and artists that we would be interested in using for our music video. We had a idea that what type of music, vibe we wanted for our music video as we had a type of idea of how we wanted our music to be set out. We come across 'Thicke - Heartbeat' a R'N'B girl band from america on www.unsigned.co.uk. We listened to all of their songs that had been uploaded on to their page on the website and found all of their music the genre we wanted for our video. The genre we wanted for our video was kinda like destiny childs music, like a women based music video. Thicke was the closest thing to that.

    Jamie Thraves Case Study

As as a class we looked at a Case Study based on Jamie Thraves in our lesson. And we found out quite a lot about him.

    • Used award winning short films as a 'Calling Card' to get a 'Foot in the door' with the video production company Factory films.
    • Began by shooting three very low budget music videos- costs about £5,000

    The process:Jamie Thraves TIPS.
    • A 'Commissioner' from a record label sends a track 5-10 directors.
    • The directors then each submit a treatment .
    • This stage is unpaid
    • The director who has submitted the 'best treatment' is then comissioned to mak the video
    • Then the director is paid.
    1. Radiohead - Just
    • This had a budget of £100,000
    • and was Shot in 3 days.

    2. Cold Play- The Scientist
    • This one had a budget of £200,000
    • and it was also shot in 3 days.

    Jamie Thraves most recent video:
    • Japanese Popstar- Song for Lisa

    • Shooting Time - 2days
    • Jamie has used the music videos to get in the film buisness.

Use the lyrics but try not to be too literal
